The Largs & District Youth Theatre was founded in 2002. We are a registered charity that employs theatre professionals whilst being run by a dedicated group of parents and volunteers.
The group started life as the Step by Step dance school and, over the years, has developed into one of the countries largest organisations for young people interested in drama and the creative arts. Our dedicated group of tutors run varied, energetic and (most importantly) fun drama classes for anyone of school age.
We regularly perform in our home theatre (where we meet every week) and in the past have put on production such as 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', 'The Jungle Book' and 'Bugsy Malone'. We have also brought two performances to the Lyceum theatre in Edinburgh as part of the National Theatre's Connections programme.
The focus is on not only performances and developing performance skills - as important as that is - but also on creating original scripts, understanding the technical aspects of theatre making and gaining confidence through doing something that is greatly rewarding and highly enjoyable. The workshops have a laid-back atmosphere where the young people can be themselves, make new friends and - hopefully - have experiences that will last them a lifetime.
The classes run at the Vikingar! on a Tuesday and Wednesday, for more information on class times and fees please visit the welcome page.
