Barrfields Theatre

The Largs Youth Theatre have their own dedicated space behind the Vallhalladrome Cinema in the Vikingar. We have staged our productions in numerous venues including the Greenock Wallace Bennett Theatre, the Viking Experience, Brisbane Centre and the Clark Memorial Hall, however our main venue is the Barrfields Theatre in Largs where the vast majority of our productions are staged.

The "Barrfields Pavilion" opened on Friday 11th April 1930 with an all-star variety show. In those days the theatre seated 1003 people over three levels - the stalls, balcony and gallery.

"The Barrfields" soon became one of the most prestigious summer theatres in the UK and for over 40 years staged the famous "Largs Summer Show" that ran twice-nightly from May to September. Many performers of the Barrfields Summer Season went on to star in Hollywood movies.

From the 1930s through to the 1960s, Barrfields was the venue for BBC broadcasts, as many radio and later BBC Scotland television shows came "Live From The Barrfields Pavilion"

In 1994, the theatre was refurbishment and partly rebuilt - bringing it up to date. The theatre now seats 500 and is part of the Vikingar! centre.
