What We Do!
Our profesisonal tutors lead sessions in acting and characterisation drawing upon techniques used by the Royal Shakespeare Company and renowned drama schools.
Our senior class recently produced a educational video for school children on Vikings, commisioned by the Heritage Lottery.
Our choreographer delivers a programme of dance based upon music in the charts and such styles are often incorporated into our productions.
One of our tutors lectures in sound production, making the Largs Youth Theatre an ideal training ground for specific aspects of technical theatre.
There is emphasis on students creating and writing their own pieces of theatre. Often scripts produced by our students have been successfully staged by the youth theatre. Recently a script written by 3 of our students was produced into an educational film for schools.
The youth theatre own professional video equipment including studio lighting, a broadcast standard DV camera, professional microphones and a full digital video editing suite, and workshops are often held on this art form.
our high number of musician students are often recruited to perform as part of our productions in the orchestra pit. There are frequent visits from professional voice coaches and rhythm workshops.
The youth theatre provides an excellent foundation training for musical theatre Musical theatre makes up the vast majority of our productions staged over the years.
We frequently take our students to see professional theatre producitons, as well as tours of theatre buildings and workshops. Recent trips have taken our students all over the country from Edinburgh to Perth to York.
Students are taught methods of using a performer's body when creating a character and are shown how dancing and movement can be used in musical productions.
Group improvisation is used as a means to create and devise ideas for performance and as training to encourage thinking on the spot as a performer.
Games are used to display how concentration, warming up and interaction with fellow performers are all important for any performer
